Friends 2 Friends is a charity that supports adults with learning disabilities and they approached YouCan for a grant of £300 to help with their plan of starting a healthy living group for people in and around Burntwood in Staffordshire.
The new group, called Good 2 Live, is not just for people living with a learning disability as Alison Wellon from the charity explains: “This group is open to everyone with our aim being to reach as many people of Burntwood and the surrounding areas as possible to create a group with a real community feel.
“We’re hoping to attract older people, parents, and people living with mental health conditions as well as those with a learning disability. Everyone is welcome and this grant will allow us to pay for venue hire, enable us to advertise the group and will go towards the cost of cooking equipment and stationery.
“Friends 2 Friends are match funding the amount of the grant by providing volunteer hours to the value of £300 to run Good 2 Live. We’re really looking forward to offering healthy lunches and getting the group members involved in healthy living activities and wellbeing sessions aimed at building confidence and taking care of yourself physically and mentally.
“To launch the weekly wellbeing group we’ve organised a free event to take place on Monday 9 May at Cherry Close in Burntwood. The two-hour event is open to all and will include a graffiti art workshop, street dance, aromatherapy, healthy living information, a raffle and the all-important buffet lunch – the fun starts at 10.30am so please come and join us.”
